Home visits take several times longer than a surgery consultation.
The doctor or nurse may phone a patient beforehand to find out more about the problem. The decision to visit is at the discretion of the doctor. Facilities at the surgery are far better for examinations and treatment.
We do understand that it is impossible for some patients to attend surgery and the doctors are happy to visit the elderly and infirm at home. If possible patients are requested to ring before 11am if a home visit is needed. If its routine home visit then patients should ring on the day the home visit is needed.
Patients are reminded "no transport" is not a reason for a home visit and we expect patients to use public transport.
We do not normally visit children at home as we believe we can assess their health more safely at the surgery.
For Urgent appointments and home visits outside normal surgery hours patients are informed to please telephone 111.. The OUT OF HOURS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TREATMENT FROM 6.30PM EVERY EVENING UNTIL 8.00AM. AND ON WEEKENDS FROM A FRIDAY NIGHT AT 6.30PM UNTIL 8.00AM ON A MONDAY MORNING. The out of hours service will either give telephone advise, invite a patient to a treatment centre or even make a home visit if they deem it clinically necessary.
